Comparing Magazine Adverts

On the right you can see our magazine advert for your ska album. Below are two adverts for existing ska albums. We tried to use a similar look to ska magazine adverts like the two shown here. One way we have done this is by using mainly just black and white. This is a very obvious feature of most ska adverts so we thought it was important that we do the same. Another thing we have done is include images of the band members. We thought this was important because the band and the instruments are a very important part of ska music and so featured on most ska adverts. Finally, we have included the album cover on our magazine advert. We did this because it shows people what they are looking for and sells our album. It will also promote the record label as more people are likely to recognise it. Album covers are featured on a lot of other ska album magazine adverts like the one below (right).

Working on the magazine advert

I have now taken the picture of the members of the band there are going to be included on the magazine advert for the album. I have imported these pictures into Adobe Photoshop, created a border to make them look like they have been taken on film and put a black and white filter on them. This makes them not suitable for the magazine advert. Now I need to add these pictures to the rest of the advert on a separate Photoshop file and assemble it with rest of the thing that are going to be included on the magazine advert.

Album Cover

This is the album cover for our album that we have created called 'sleep all day'. I used photoshop to create this. I have used typical features of ska album covers including a black and white theme, 'checkerboard stripes' along the top and bottom and the character featured on the album cover is based on the 'The Walt Jabsco logo' which was heavily used on ska album covers. We have altered the character to fit our album cover while still keeping the typical feature of a ska album cover. We are going to continue this theme throughout the rest of our digipack as well as our magazine advert.

Music Video Update

This is the third rough cut of our music video. There are still a few things which need to be tweaked, such as the lip syncing in on of the scenes.

We are hoping that in the first couple of weeks of 2017 we will be able to fully upload our completed music video, followed by our digipack and magazine article.

Happy New Year!!! :)
