This music video by Smash Mouth is of the Ska genre, which is the genre of our song. Here is my thoughts on it.
Cinematography
- There is large amount of jump cuts being used to the beat of the music. They go from the dinger to dancers on the street, back and forward.
- The use of several different shot types and angles are used for the street dancing, allowing the viewers to watch it from all angles. For example, the ariel shot and low angles.
- Lots of close ups are on the lead singers face which shows the lip synching has been done very well.
Editing
- Use of split screens and making it look as if its on camera celluloid. Shows the lead singer and then the band at the same time.
- The fading between two different cuts makes the video flow and makes it easy to watch.
- Eye line match is used when the band are performing to the people at tables. We are shown the people looking at them and then the next shot is what they are looking at.
Mise-en-scene
- Bright and colourful costumes are worn. It shows that the music video is different and cheerful, creating that look towards the song.
- They located it in a bar and on the street, in both they perform. It makes the video fun to watch and makes you want to watch it all the way through.
- All instruments are shown in the music video and are shown with the band playing them at the correct time.
